    QuestionAlpha puppy

So we will be picking up the little one tomorrow. His foster mom said he's the leader in the puppy pack. Anything we should know about having a little alpha puppy?

I'm not a believer in dominance theory, so I would take that to mean he is the most active/pushy of the litter.

So he will probably need activities to occupy his mind, lots of training that involves him actively learning new skills. Lots of toys to play with and lots of socialization to be had. He'll need to be taught what the rules are, what acceptable behaviour is.

So basically, all the regular puppy stuff.

    Have fun!!

    Yep, what Kate said.

I think this type of puppy can be considered a "high drive" puppy. As mentioned above, they sometimes require a little more mental and physical stimulation than a more laid back puppy might.

Angus was very high drive - he was the type who really needed a "job" to do. I spent a lot of time working with him on obedience and taking him to classes.

I would suggest classes as soon as he's old enough, perhaps some organized play dates with other puppies his age? Good luck! I like high drive puppies - they are very smart and fun to train!
