    DefaultSalmonella??

Can I really catch salmonella from sharing a spoon with my dog?
I was eating ice cream the other day and I gave a spoonful to Java. Then used the same spoon again myself....kind of gross, but I can't be the only one that has done that, can I?
Brian told me that dogs have salmonella in their mouths and I could catch it and get sick if I shared the same spoon as Java.
    True?

Not that I've ever heard. Reptiles - yes. Dogs, I doubt it.

But - YUK! No - I've never shared my spoon with my dog. Or anyone else who licks their own ass.

I've never heard of that before. I don't share spoons on a regular basis, but I have to admit, I've given them a bite before and then ate from it. What's the difference if you let them lick your face and give kisses?

LOL! I have seen what Angus puts in his mouth, so there will never be any spoon-sharing or lip-licking between us.

But I don't think dogs have salmonella in their mouths. Sounds like those old wives have been at it again!

Good...I'm glad I'm not the only one!! I don't make a habit of it, but I was eating ice cream and just wanted to give her a spoonful. Java has been restricted to her crate since her surgery 3-25-10, so other than licking her butt (yuck) she hasn't put anything nasty or dead in her mouth.

Seriously, what is the difference? We let them lick our faces and give kisses???

According to my vet it is definitely a concern if you are feeding a raw diet/raw meat, but otherwise I'm not sure. I don't share spoons with anyone. LOL

Well, I'm guilty of the spoon sharing, but it only happened once. It was ice cream (seems to be a pattern....), but I probably won't do it again. But then again.... his face is so damn cute and he only wants a bit of my treat! Sigh.... I'll let you guys know if I ever get poisonned.

I'm guilty. But NOT with the dogs who eat poop.

I have shared a taste of ice cream off a spoon with Guthrie...and will do it again! I am more scared of getting sick from eating out at a restaurant(I worked at a fancy restaurant for many years and some of the stuff there made my stomach turn!) Of course Guthrie does not have any yucky oral habits.

And I thought they always say that a dogs mouth is cleaner than a humans? Guthrie does not seem to be offended eating off of my spoon!
