on both hip joints. I thought there might be some as he has seemed sore, but stunned at how much. On the ball of one hip it showed a hair line fracture that has arthritis around it. The vets say being hit by a car would do this. ( it isn't the hip that was hurt when the car came up onto the pavement).
At his previous home lived in a garage so guess when someone drove in he ran out.
Vets didn't mention this when he had xrays for his H.D. 5 years ago when I got him, so not sure if the arthritis is making it clearer or better equipment.
The monthly Pentosan isn't working as well so they have increased his Pred which I hate. I am hoping to try Duralactin or Synoquin to see if it helps. He can't have other meds with his Crohns.
He also has an ACL tear on the better knee. They have suggested we leave this and if it goes complelety they will asses him.
If anyone has advice on either of these I would appreciate it.

Poor guy. He must be going through hell. Do you belong to your local Lab club? Maybe if you got amongst other dog owners in your area, you might get some new ideas from other people re what they're doing to help their dogs.
I hope you can get some relief for him. Arthritis is a bitch of a disease.
Garth we don't have a Lab club as such. There is one that is run by the breeder Erns and Kassa came from, but she hit the roof when I said her dog has Hip Displaysia so don't think I will get much help there. She is one of N.Z. top breeders.
Yeah a bitch. He had the xray last Thursday and I have been devestated. But...Hey Erns and I have had mountains to cross before and we can do it again.
Poor old Ernie !
Hope you find a good route to handle this Chris !
If it we were coming into Summer I wouldn't worry so much as swimming has been great for his hips. But we are coming into winter and last year I struggled a bit without swimming for 3 months. I have had a wet suit vest made and should be here next week so hoping that will keep him warmer to swim.
sorry, i have no advise but i hope that you find something that works with Erns that doesn't impact his crohns. keep us posted on his progress.
Sorry to hear about Ernie. I've luckily not had to deal with this on my dogs, but I have seen this on TV. https://www.drfrankspainrelief.com/
I don't know if the product works or not, but it might be worth a try? Hope you can find something for him. Just a note, which you probably know, but cold water causes arthritis. I will only waterfowl hunt my dogs in early season because once the water starts to get cold I don't want them swimming in it. I've seen other people that hunt their dogs in conditions where the dogs have to break through ice to get to the ducks and by the time the dogs is 5 it's starting to get arthritis.
No advice here, but I wish the best for Erns. I know you will do what ever is best for him. Do you do message therapy/acupuncture/chiropractic procedures with him? Some of those practices may help him, but I do not know how available they are in your area.

Chris, I wish I had some bright ideas for you and Erns. I think if you can keep him swimming that will help. Hope you can find some meds that will work for him and not upset his Crohn's. Hugs for you and Erns.
