    DefaultLabradors Pointing?

Do any of you have any experience with your labs pointing when out for a walk or hunting?

I've seen Aidan do this quite often but Ruby is real birdy....when she sees the Canadian geese down at the lake she comes to a perfect, still point...tail straight up in the air like a beagle. She does not have gay tail or anything like that...it's only when she sees or senses a bird. My son has a sun conure, and she will do the same thing when she sees the bird in the cage...Freeze and point.

    Is this common?

So they actually do the leg point and everything?

Baloo will freeze with his tail up, but he never does the leg thing. And he only freezes for a few seconds before the CHARGE! comes.

Aidan doesnt do the leg thing but Ruby does....it's wild. It's a perfect point.

Maggie will point with her tail and stand with her head in a perfect point (straight ahead), but not with her leg up. It's a beautiful sight!

Some Labs are selected and bred to be "pointing Labs." If you google pointing Labrador Retrievers, you'll find a number of breeders. I've had 2 Labs and neither pointed but I've seen one Lab point just like a Pointer.

Fascinating article...I was not even aware of this controversy...

" Beat it out of them and breed it out of them" vs let them point, as long as they can retrieve it, also.

Lexi does this every once in a while when she encounters a bunny, of all things. She hits a darn near perfect point, front leg up, tail straight out, etc. I've seen my sister's Brittany point, so I know she is pretty much dead on with hers.

It really is funny to watch them when they point.

Jefferson points. With leg up. Teddy does not. Jefferson is much more prey driven than Teddy.

And the real question here, is what do they do with this information that they collect – that does not have anything to do with al-Qaeda? And we’re gonna trust the president and the vice president that they’re doing the right thing? Don’t count me in on that.”
