    DefaultSay Hello to Trooper

My son Jeffrey, is now working towards becoming a Vet Tech (which is the perfect job for him, for those of you who know him).
Last week, some people brought in a Yorkie who they picked up on the road after watching someone dispose of him through the car window.
He was a mess...scratches, cuts, infested with fleas. The vet cleaned him up and asked which of the staff was going to take him home? Guess who volenteered lol
This poor guy was a mess...we bathed him, treated him with flea meds, got him some good Sr canned food. the vet estimates he is 12-13 years old.
On the 2nd visit to the vet, we got heartworm and lyme's screenings done...both neg...got him rabies and distemper and a good exam.
He has glaucoma in 1 eye. The other eye has a severe laceration across it, which causes a nasty ulcer. That has to be flushed twice a day and have ointment applied to it. His mouth is a complete mess. Missing tons of teeth and the ones he has left are rotting. The vet also found a very severe heart murmur, so he does not want to put him under and have his teeth cleaned.
Which is a shame, because the smell from his mouth is pretty bad and he won't let me brush his teeth...I'm sure they are sore. Any suggestions from you guys on how to improve his breath and dental hygiene?
He lovesssss Emma, Aidan and Ruby and follows them around everywhere. Aidan is quite annoyed at having to share his kingdom but Ruby and Emma have adopted him and baby and mother him.
Katie loves putting all of her Build-a-Bear clothes on him and he is sporting a different outfit every day. Slowly, we are beginning to see his cute personality but i am SO out of my league with a small dog!
We named him Trooper because....well, he is one! What a survivor.
I would cheerfully like to strangle whoever disposed of this poor dog. I know many of you would join me
I contacted a Yorkie Rescue, before we decided to just keep him here, and the woman in charge is coming to groom him for me and show me how to do it, since I am clueless about this grooming stuff! Wash and wear Labs are SO much easier!

Poor baby. So are you keeping him for good?
His breath will improve after all his teeth problems are over.

Susan... he looks like a real cutie.

Can't wait to meet him, I'd guess around Christmas when I deliver the cookies! I know Jeff & Jeffery await those every year.

    My pretty girl, Lexi!

Poor little old guy, I can´t believe people are so mean to just dump him like that. If he is sick and they don´t have resources they can always go to a humane society, and if he has many problems it´s just better to PTS, but dump them in the street? it´s unbelievable...

Great that you adopted him and that he is coming around despite his problems.

The lady at the Yorkie rescue said all they had to do was make 1 phone call...no questions asked, she would have taken the dog from them immediately. So, no excuses.

Jeffrey is 19 and Katie is 10
