    DefaultAKC Canine Partners program

    I remember back last year when rumors and stuff were going on about the AKC starting a new program for mixed breeds/mutts. Well I just realized that as of oct 1, I believe they have started accepting and allowing them to be eligible to participate in Rally O, Agility, and Obedience(but they won't be able to start competing until sometime in April).

    I am seriously considering signing Abby up and looking into doing agility and Obedience with her competitively as soon as I can participate in activities. The only real requirement is that they must be spayed/neutered and that's no problem with us as Abby has already been spayed.

    Signing up with them for a few of $35 you recieve the following

    * Complimentary 60-Day Trial AKC Pet Healthcare Plan*
    * Lifetime enrollment in AKC CAR Lost & Found Recovery Service
    * One-year subscription to AKC Family Dog magazine
    * AKC Canine PartnersSM Certificate of Recognition
    * AKC Canine PartnersSM Decal
    * Eligibility to participate in AKC Agility, Obedience and AKC Rally® Events
    * AKC CAR collar tag with AKC Canine Partners Listing Number

    here are some links for those who want to learn more about it.

    Actually, it is THIS April they are starting to allow mixed breeds! Our club is having a trial in April, and mixed breeds will be allowed to compete.

    I think there are mixed feelings at our club about the program. I am all for anything to help elevate the status of the mixed breed, so I was thrilled about it.

    It will be no different than competing with an ILP (or PAL as it is called now), and that's what the boys have since they were rescues. I absolutely think you should do it! I recommend starting with Rally. It's a great way to become familiar with competing, and the rules are less stringent than traditional obedience. Novice is all done on leash.
