We live on the beach in MA. Lola ( 3 months old) is always wanting to romp in the water, but I think it is too cold so I don't let her. My question is...is it too cold to let her walk in the water. I didn't worry about this with Gracie because she liked the beach but never wanted to get her feet wet. Thanks for the help on this won.
Sammi will go swimming in the river in the dead of winter, even when we are over in Central Oregon where it can get much colder then here. I don't let her go for a long time, but I do let her go.
My Bess was somewhat similar to dipete's Sammi. When Bess was near water and if the ice was thin enough to break through, Bess wanted to -- was determined -- to swim.
For much of her lfe we lived next to a park within walking distance of a pond; we went there 4 seasons of the year.
I handled her swimming in winter by taking along a couple bath towels to dry her off as much as possible after she finished swimming so she wouldn't get too cold after that or on the walk home.

I agree with letting an older dog swim, but I think 3 months old is a bit too young to be in water this time of year. Your pup doesn't have full coat yet to protect her from the cold.
