DefaultQuestion on what to give for itchies

With winter weather the heater is on (gas) so apparently it also has brought on itchy skin for Katie. It seems worse at night (I am sure I notice it more because she wakes me up scratching in her crate or on the bed with me).

We tried benedryl...omg...it was like giving a kid a ton of sugar and caffeine. It wound her up soooooo tight.. that was a long night. We were in hope that it would either sooth the itchies and let her sleep good. NOT. Any ideas on what to give her. Vet is out of town until next week sometime and I really don't like the vet on call at all.

Have you tried using a humidifier? Abbey always gets itchier in the winter but this year I got a humidifier and have been running it daily - seems to have helped.

What's she sleeping on? A lot of dogs can't tolerate woolen blankets. Have you changed anything in her diet? Also with the change of season, there could be new grasses come up in the lawn. It could be any one of numerous things that are causing it.

We are experiencing the same thing. I turned the humidifier on and that has helped us all! Then I started them on ProPlan Salmon & Rice which is their sensitive skin and stomach formula. That helped a bit too. I also put a fish oil cap in their food once a day. Other than that, I don't know what to tell you.

I second this. Daisy had some dandruff and so we got the humidifier out, and it works like a charm. My mom even noticed less static in her hair!

We don't have a problem with this as it's always humid where I live. But I would suggest the humidifer for you and also adding fish oil to your dog's diet.

Yep we just turned our humidifier on last week. Also started with the fish oil supplement. Every year at this time we follow the same routine.
