DefaultWhat would you do? (spay) UPDATE

UPDATE : She's got an appointment on the 22nd at my regular vet. They'll take payments.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I need to have Macy spayed this month. It's been 4 months since her first season, and she just finished up the antibiotics she was on for lyme, so it's time. Here's my dilemma.

My vet is going to charge me around $630 to have it done (soup to nuts, including pain meds after). There's another vet that is about 40 minutes away who will do it for 1/2 that price. I know this vet also, he used to come to our farm when I was little and care for our horses and cows. He spayed/nuetered my cats years and years ago for cheap also.

So, would you pick your vet at the higher price, which would give you peace of mind, and also knowing that he's close for any aftercare she might need? Or is it such a routine surgery that you would drive further to have it done cheaper?

That's what I'm hoping the majority will say. I guess I'm just nervous about the whole thing.

We went with the cheaper route too but it was also a vet we use and a 24 hr vet hospital so it wasn't as big of a deal.

after nearly losing sophie to a reaction to the anasthesia, I'd be a little cautious about using the cheaper vet, although I can understand why some would choose that.

I'd use the close trusted vet - this is a family member we're talking about!

I would go with the cheaper vet. I would feel okay with that decision because you already know that vet. Good luck.

I think the first thing I'm going to do is call my vet and see if they'll let me make payments, maybe 1/2 and 1/2. If they will, then there's no question.

If it was something a bit more complex then I would have said stick to your own vet but something as routine as this, they do everyday, plus you know both I would definately go the cheaper option and buy her something pretty with the change

Of course, $s are always an issue for everyone, bit if it is not a financial strain on you.

You like and trust your current vet? If the answer is yes, the extra $300 is less than $30 (<$3/per month) a year over the next 10 years or more that she will be with you. Based on that, I would be taking her to the vet you feel most comfortable/confident with.

If however, finances are a real issue to you right now, and assuming you trust the cheaper vet also, that might be the way for you to go.
