I didn't post this yesterday, because i didn't think i could stand to post more bad news.. but here goes..
Her other back leg is now deteriorating and will also need TPLO surgery. Problem being is when you do one surgery, it dramatically increases the speed in which the other leg will go down hill because she will be putting all her weight on it.. and because she can't have surgery on it until the first one is fully recovered, she will develop arthritis in both hind legs regardless of the TPLO.
Added to that LRRO is paying for one surgery.. i doubt asking them to pay for both is fair. Nor do i know right now what kind of life this is going to give koda..
I don't know what to do about it.. i need to talk to LRRO about this and with a vet who does TPLO to see what s/he recommends.
It's not good news for my snugglegirl.. but it's too soon to know how this is going to play out as of yet.
poor thing.. the funny thing is.. she's such a bouncy happy girl.. you'd never know.
Unfortunately this is all too common. She is young and both legs can be fixed. Adding supplements like glucosamine to her diet may help her later in life. I cannot recall, was the traditional repair an option for Koda, they are usually a bit cheaper and sometimes two can be done for nearly the price of one TPLO.
so sorry to read about Koda bless her, hope all goes well with whatever action you decide to take
I'm sorry Kelli. Please keep us updated on what you end up doing.

That sucks Kelli. I don't know anything about it, but hopefully you'll get good advice/suggestions here that can help, or aid in the decision making.
Me, Abzilla and the Helomonster.
I'm very sorry to hear this about Koda, Kelli.
I wasn't familiar with TPLO surgery so googled it.
I found the following link an interesting read. You may (or might not) find it gives you other options to consider.
Puff [YF, AKC field line (from competing HT/FT breeder) 62 lbs, dob: 8-'01]
Bess [BF, AKC bench line (from competing show breeder) 55 lbs., 1967-1981] "Poor Bess, the Wonder Dog":
That stinks. Sorry, Kelli! Let us know what you end up doing.
Oh Kelli. I am so sorry about Koda, sending good thoughts and prayers that things work out well for both of you.
Jackie, Champ, and Buddy
Kelli, that really sucks about Koda... sending good thoughts her (and your) way.
There are a couple of Canadian companies that make prosthetic braces for dogs - maybe that would be a possible solution?
