DefaultHey there! I love my new lab!!

Hi there! My new lab is 8 1/2 weeks old and her name is Maggie! She is a spunky little girl and makes me laugh out loud all the time! She is doing great in our apartment as far as potty training goes, although I do take her out quite frequently.

We are working with her now on crate training. She has been training for about a week now and still whines throughout the night. We take her out and then put her straight back into the crate, but she still whines. Any suggestions?

Also, I wanted to ask if it is a good thing to try to potty train on those puppy pads you see all over now a days? It would be really nice for her I think, but I just don't want to confuse her.

Looking forward to get to know you all!

welcome to the board and congrats on the new addition

What do you do when you take her out of the crate at night?

There are various views on the puppy pads. There are very few situations where they are recommended. Best to just teach the puppy not to go inside.

oh and please - post pictures!

Welcome to JL to both you & Maggie! ;D

Since my Lexi is a rescue, I did not have to deal with that, so I can't offer any suggestions. You might want to check out the board here for training tips & puppy advice.

    Like Tanya said, pics please!

    My pretty girl, Lexi!

When she whines I don't make a big to-do about it. I simply take her straight outside and see if she goes potty right away. If she starts to play around then I take her back into her crate. I just wish I could make her feel better in her crate. She's got special toys that she only gets in her crate too. I also put an old fashioned clock at the very back corner under her bed. I guess maybe it will just take time.

    It will take time.

Where is the crate? Some have found that bringing the crate in the bedroom near the bed helps with the crying.

Another thing you can do is use the search function (top right of the screen) - there have been lots of posts on this issue with different tips. In the training section there is also a " our best advice" thread, there is info in there on puppies and crating as well.

I'm not really sure how to post pictures so we'll see if this works.

Welcome from WI; great to have you & Maggie on the board!
Wow - she is a little cutie; I miss when Bailey was that small.
Sounds like you're doing good on your part for crate training - posting or searching for some questions in the puppy section might be a great resource for you right now.
