Hi. I'm the owner of a beautiful, 12-year-old female, JoJo.... daughter of champions kept out of the action due to an eye defect -- instead works as loving companion to special needs (now older) boy and various cats.
Jo cannot go up steps or jump up into the car.
She is 100 pounds or so and her legs and hips are giving out on her.
She is weak and cannot go for anything but very brief walks. I could not even lift her into a wagon to get her the rest of the way home if need be.
I need to be able to lift her into the car -- and what if I have to carry her to the car in an emergency?
I'd love to be able to carry her upstairs to my bedroom because she used to sleep in my room and I miss her --now she has to sleep alone on the first floor. Also on the second floor of our house is the bathtub. I'd love to lift her in there!
Has anyone faced and overcome this kind of problem?
This seems like a friendly community and I'm happy to have discovered it.
Welcome to you and JoJo.
I would suggest posting the Lab Chat section with your questions, as that gets a lot more traffic than the Introductions section.
Welcome and yes post in lab chat for more viewings.
a friend of mine has a senior Border Collie who still loves going on walks but really can't manage anything longer than 5 mins now without struggling due to her joints.
So he's started going riding his bike with her instead (stay with me)
He has attached a little trailer to his bike and filled it with a blanket and cusioning, something like the picture below - although much cheaper and simple - just to give you an idea.
That way his dog still gets to be out and about and smell the world and explore the sights and when she's tired and needs a rest she gets in the trailer and watches the world go by! She absolutely loves it and my friend is enjoying the new excersise!
welcome! i also think you need to post in lab chat. is your dog overweight? if she is then losing some weight will help with her joints.
