DefaultHi From Pearl in Long Beach, California

    Hello All,
We were on this forum a long time ago-glad I found it and happy to be back.
Pearl is having TPLO surgery next week, 11/13/07. :'( Anyone that can help us through this time with suggestions for an easier recovery-we'd love to hear from you.
Thanks for being here for all of us Labby people!! ;D

Hi from Monrovia, CA! I can't help with suggestions for TPLO surgery in particular, but Champ just recently had TPO surgery (4 weeks ago), so I can sympathize with the difficulties of recovery for your pupper. Is Pearl crate-trained? Being able to crate Champ and have him be content was crucial to his recovery (he is on forced inactivity for at least 6 weeks). Frozen kongs were a nice treat that he could "play" with and still be calm. We also got him some "brain" exercise treat dispensers that he can play with while he's crated.

Champ has recovered much faster than I thought he would - if it were up to him, he'd be running and jumping and playing bitey-face already

Also, sounds like you already have a surgeon, but our surgeon was FABULOUS if you're in the need of someone good.

Thanks for the info. Glad your guy is doing better. We've stocked up on Kongs, we used them when she was little. And she is crate trained, so she should be fine. We got a exercise pen, and have it set up in about a 4x4ft area with carpet underneath, and she already went in there for a nap this afternoon. So, we hope that it is a good sign for her recovery period.
I do have a great surgeon that has done 1000's of these surgeries. So, we feel good about that.
Thanks so much for the suggestions and kind words,
    Doris and Pearl
