have been reading this site for over a year now and have finally joined. I am in the process of trying to find a lab to adopt and we can't wait till we find him/her. We are so excited and hopefully sometime soon I'll be able to share our own stories and of course pictures!
hello from toronto!
We live in St. Thomas, just south of London. I was wishing I had a dog when I was reading all about the lab fest you guys had in October. Looks like everyone had such a great time.
I have contacted the LLRO and am waiting to hear back from them, thanks though. I hope to hear something soon!!
Interested in a puppy?
or a young adult
(Those two are in the St. Thomas City pound...)
petfinder has a ton more listed.
Hee hee.... leave it to Nancy, she'll have a housefull for you in no time..
Baloo - 5 year old black lab
Peanut - 7 year old minpin
Monster - 3-ish year old frenchie/jack, rescue
Thanks Nancy for the links. I have been checking on Petfinder, but the reason I was hoping to go through the LRRO was because it seems that because they only deal with labs, they would hopefully be able to find the right dog to fit our family. I like the fact that they question you and even do a home visit, shows how important it is to them. I don't know too much about how things work in the shelters, I did volunteer at the Humane Society in London for a while, but never did learn about how they evaluate the dogs. Do you know how that is done in the shelters?
depends on the shelter - some evaluate, some don't - and the way evaluations are done can vary as well. Also, evaluations in a shelter may or may not accurately show how the dog will behave in a home, shelters can be very stressful places for many dogs, and this will influence results.
Since many dogs in pounds are strays with unknown history, its a crap shoot... hence my advice to get a trainer or someone experienced to go with you. If you're not comfortable with that, go with a rescue group that fosters.
