We are Jake's owners, and just getting started with this. We are looking for advice at the moment, and hoping to learn lot's of great things about labs. We got Jake when he was 5 months old, (just last Feb. 2007) and we are not quite sure of what kind of sitiuation he had been in, but we are thinking a kennel with lots of dogs, anyways when we got him he was under weight and eating like he couldn't get enough food in him. Once we took him in and got him all cleaned up and to the vet, got his shots, but we found out he had 3 types of worms. We got that all cleared up, and he has been the best dog, happy, healthy and growing dog. Wonderful dog.... untill yesterday (which now he is about 11 months) we have 3 young children and have never had a problem before but....there has been 3 other kids from outside our family that have been around him in the last two days, and he has went at them in attempt to bite them. He actually made a little girls cheek red. We were pretty much in shock, and not sure what to do with him. Does ANYONE know anything about this type of behavior in a black lab, or if you have experienced this at all with yours. We thought labs were great with kids. I do know that these other kids that were around, all had other dogs scents on them! Would love any feedback or help. We were thinking of bringing him to the vet to get him checked out!
Hi, I'm new here too, and was thinking you may get more of a response to your question if you posted the issue you are having on the forum part of this site. That way lots of experienced owners could view your question. They may not always think to look here. Just a thought. Hope things get worked out for Jake.
Hi and Welcome to the board! I am in MN too.. Good to see fellow MN lab lovers on here ... Our black lab is 4 months old and we have 3 small kids as well adn Sparrow does the same thing to them al of the time... the kids have little scratches and red marks on them all of the time... You have to watch when your pup is doing it .. does he seem angry? Is he growling? Maybe he doesnt understand that it is bad and he is just being a playfull pup? good luck with your lab! You will love him! They really are the best dogs ever!
