Abbey and I have been members here for a long time, but life got in the way for a few years (hmm, probably more) and I've only just arrived back and rejoined (due to total lack of memory for what my password was previously). I think it's the same as those times I have misplaced my car keys. Abbey is a 9 year old yellow Lab who was born with HD and due to PRA is blind. Yep, she got hit with the lucky stick. Seriously I am the lucky one as she has brought me endless amounts of joy with her happy approach to each day. For a dog that vets and specialists didn't think would make old bones, she is doing pretty well. Between Abbey, her vet and I, we have done very well with managing her HD and it is more her blindness that affects her on a day to day basis when she forgets where things are. Her memory is very good and although she is more cautious moving around, she pretty much has a plan inside her mind to go by (as well as her super nose and ears). She lives with two other dogs. Gema is a 3 year old black Lab and Tyson is an 8 year old black Lab X. They all get on very well.
A photo of all three of them taken at Christmas.
