    DefaultCocoa's Mom

    Hello from Texas!

We have a 5 1/2 month old chocolate lab, named Cocoa. She is a handful but SO very smart! We are new to labs, and it's been a learning process. Still working on some behavior problems - more nuisances than "problems", but we'll get there! She's been so much fun, and is such good company. We take her to training once a week and try to make as much time as we can at home to work with her.. but some days it's tough! My brother in law actually bought her when she was 6 weeks old, and we took her in when she was around 10 or 11 weeks...So part of the probem is that we didn't make the decision to invest the time/money into having a dog (and it's been a huge adjustment!), but have grown to love her so we're trying to be patient during her formative years! LOL She's so darn pretty and so smart!! Looking forward to learning lots of tips from the experts! ;D

Welcome from Texas also. Our girl is 6 months, super smart and oh so strong willed. We invested in professional training and still take her back once weekly and will do so until puppy hood is over. I hear with labs that is a long time ;D

    Welcome Cocoa's mom
Here are some pros and cons of owning a lab

    The Pros

easy to train; sit, fetch, stay, lie down,
    easy to house break
    love water and swimming
very smart so never underestimate them
    love children
great watch dogs; but all bark and no bite
    easy to care for
    very loyal
    loves to please owners

    The cons

love to roam; almost always finds away to get out of fences, pens
will dig up your entire garden, yard.
loves to chew; hands, feet, shoes, furniture etc
    always hungry
