I'm so glad to have found this board.
My husband and I have 2 labs and one on the way.
Aysa, is 9, a black lab, probably mixed somewhere along the line with Rott according to our vet. We rescued her when she was about 6 months old from an uncovered backyard prison where she was being held in solitary confinement.
Allie, is about a year, yellow, and once again, according to our vet, probably mixed with Sharpei. My husband pushed for the adoption of Allie (from the Shelter) when she was about 6 months old.
We adopted Allie just after we had to help Randii, 11 yrs, my companion dog since she was 3 months old, cross the bridge (degenerative spine disease) I was depressed, so was Aysa.
My husband kept saying how depressed Aysa was, I caved in and Allie joined our family and unfortunately she isn't healthy. She has advanced hip dysplasia in both hips. A 3 and a 2. She'll have her 2nd set of X-rays in the next couple of months and we'll see what OFA has to say about her future. Thankfully, her elbows are strong and healthy.
Enter Ranger who will be the newest addition to our family and I'm freaking out about a baby in the house...for the first time ever!!!
He's coming from a breeder that my husband works with who will provide us with historical health documentation I have just recently learned is something we should be looking for (hips, elbows, eyes, family history, OFA, etc).
Well, before I lose your attention, I will close.
I look forward to meeting lots of new folks, learning and sharing.
Welcome to the board. If you haven't had a puppy in a whlie this is a great resource.
I'm from So. Calif. too.

Welcome...and have fun with your puppy...
Make sure you do some reading in the Fire Hydrant section. Many folks can help you figure out the right questions to ask your breeder to make sure you are getting a healthy puppy!
