I have a 6 year old Black Lab who is well behaved most of the time but she does not enjoy any physical attention such as petting. If we start petting her she will quite often move away to be left alone. If we sit beside her on the couch she will get up and leave rather than have us too close to her. I am so frustrated since I love my dog but she refuses to let me pet her or be near me for longer than a few moments. She has been to obedience school twice and is very well cared for with someone home most of the day but she prefers to be left alone when I would love to have her company and enjoy petting my dog. Anyone got any ideas or similar problems?
I have honestly never heard of such a thing. We "teach" our to cuddle right from the get go. In fact that is one of the first things I "train" mine to do.
What if you give her the command "stay" and keep petting her?
Welcome to the forum. My lab can be stand-offish at times. Maybe post in lab chat to get some more exposure and answers
