My name is Laura and i just joined the lab board. My mother, Mel is also a member.* My husband, Joey and I* have a Lab/Rottie X who will be 4 years old in August.* Mostly Lab with the* total disposition of one.* She has had a tough life so far, surviving a bacterial pneumonia as a pup with weekly injections in the back for 6 months and x-rays every week. Just last year we had to get her* hip replacement surgery.* A year after the surgery* when she was still limping we found out that the plastic ball that was put in was moving too much so they had to re-operate, this time cementing the ball in place.* This latest surgery was in March and so far so good.* It is just hard to keep a big puppy calm.* For the 2 months after each surgery she could not go out by herself and had to be lifted up and down steps.* No running, playing or walking on non carpeted floors.* *We are hoping from here on in she can live a normal healthy life.

Hello and Welcome to the forum

Hi . Welcome.
The poor baby. I hope her hip heals soon.
I adopted Ernie a year ago and he has serious H.D. in both hips. Unfortunately he is unable to have surgery.
ERnie 27/11/01 adopted May 05
Kassa 27/11/01 - 9/02/05
Chris and Ernie live in N.Z.
Unfortunately if we did not do the surgery on at least one side she probably wouldn't have been walking by the time she was 5 or so The ball was actually outside of the cup in her hip! She shouldn't need it on the other side since at least one is good now. But she still has bad day's. I give her a Deramax whenever she seems like she is in pain. I guess it takes a while for the muscle to heal. They have cut into it twice already. Now 4 months after the second surgery she still dosn't seem that great. We will take her in for more x-rays soon to find out how things are going! Good luck with Ernie. He is a beautiful boy!
