    DefaultConcerned about my lab panting

Hello, I am a new member. My yellow lab Bogey is almost 13 yrs. old. He recently has been panting heavily off and on even when he is in air conditioning set at 72 degrees. I am concerned that he doing this because of pain. Has anyone else experienced this? He was on Rimadyl and is now on Prednisone (5 milligrams) for his joints. He has a bad shoulder. He still has good days but I do not want him to suffer if he is in pain. He is such a sweet & wonderful male.
    I would appreciate any comments.

    hi
my boy ellis is 15 - he too often pants when I don't really think he should be. I've asked the vet and he says it just 'happens' with old dogs and not to worry. I think it's perhaps because he can't get super comfortable sometimes, but wouldn't really classify it as pain. Ellis ALWAYS sleeps inside - if we were out camping, he would knock on the tent door as soon as it got dark to go inside the tent. When he was about 13 he would start wanting to go OUTSIDE to sleep- which was insane. I think he just likes it cooler now. Lately he has been sleeping outside almost every night... I hope this helps

    <br />Ellis (brown) &amp; Yukon (yellow) - Sadly, we helped Ellis &quot;move along&quot; on Feb 22, 2007 at age 15 1/2 - and Yukon died suddenly on Feb 1st, 2006 - 4 days before his 11th birthday.&nbsp; We are devestated.

    Welcome.
Ernie was panting when he was in pain. He has serious Hip problems and is on Metacam and Pentosan. He is 4 so I am not sure about older dogs.
I had a lab with cancer and she had good and bad days, and panting more if in pain. Perhaps you could ask the vet to increase his meds.
Wow 13 is a grand old age.
Keep us updated on how he is. If you do it in Lab chat you will get more advise.
