DefaultPast lab owner looking for new pup

    Hello all,

I have lost an amazing friend and am in the beginning stages of looking for a new puppy. Sprig was my 100lbs lab that was a breeding from a national field champion and a show dog. He had a mellow disposition and temperament yet "turned on" when we were in the field and was a fantastic waterfowler. His breeder has retired and has not responded to emails so she can't give me any referrals. I am hoping this forum can help me!

I am looking for an english-style lab that has the temperament to be a pet and home companion (primary role) yet still have excellent field instincts as I do like to hunt. I prefer a big (90-100lbs) black male with a little more leg that some english-style labs (maybe at the upper end or touch taller than the conforming standard) but still have the thick coat, blocky head and otter tail. I am in California but can travel anywhere to see and pick up a puppy. My timing is flexible but sometime in 2017 makes the most sense.

Does anyone have any breeders that come to mind when they read what I am looking for?

    Thank you in advance,

    Adam

You may want to search out your regional lab clubs or the LRC Inc breeders' list. What part of CA? If you get your post count up, you can pm me as I may have a friend w/ a blended litter to send you to. Anne

BTW, how many posts do I need to do in order to get permission to message people directly?

Look around, talk to people, newspapers, find a good backyard breeder, save yourself a boatload of money, don't buy into this "professional breeder" saga that is perpetuated by those that stand to gain.
    Or not, it's your choice.

Or not... LOL. Have no idea why Jertom has a dislike or whatever of people who actually give a rip about the breed and their pups... but it seems that way. Sigh.

I think most boards require 5-10 posts. Anne

Thanks for your input Jertom - I am looking for something pretty specific, and I rarely see where I live so I'm not sure asking around or a newspaper is going to help. But if I can find something local that would be ideal.

Thanks Anne - I am in Northern CA, just north of San Francisco but my family farms in Chico so I travel around the northern part of the state frequently. If you have any leads, that would be great. I am also open to travelling to find a great dog. Also, it doesn't have to be a blended breeding as I know there are english-type labs that are great hunting companions. I guess I am most interesting in a large, dual purpose, english-type lab that has a calm disposition (i.e., not hyper or wound-up) but also has great hunting instincts.
