Hi everyone, I am hoping some of you have experience to help me.
I lost my Golden Retriever last year to hemangiosarcoma he was only 5.
I have always owned and still do border collies. The golden came my way and I fell hard.
I would get another one, but I am aware of the high risk of cancer, so I am looking at a lab.
If any of you have experience with both breeds could you place tell how they compare.
Goldens are known for a high rate of cancer. Labs have it too, but not so much.
One of my best friends has had Goldens for 25 yrs or so. Very very nice/ sweet breed, but yes, very prone to cancers of different types. Hemangio seems to be running in lines, and she too has lost some younger ones.
I've lost 2 labs to hemangio, but not until they were 14.5 and 12.5, respectively. I do think Labs are healthier in general, but you still need to do your homework when choosing a litter / breeder. Best of luck. Anne
