This is the dad of a puppy I'm looking at buying. Would you say it's chocolate or silver?Resized_20160318_162947 .jpg
It looks like what some people would call a silver but since that color doesn't really exist in pure Labs, He's probably mixed with something else.
That being said, the puppies could be any color.
The puppy I'm looking at is solid black and looks exactly like a lab. The mom is definitely a black lab. I just don't want to pay a pure breed price for what may be a mixed breed pup. I'm still waiting on pics of the dad's parents.
If He's a purebred and you're paying purebred prices, then you should get the papers on the little guy. They will probably show the dad as chocolate.
If there are no papers, then the price just came down. LOL.
there's folks here more informed then I , but I don't think that's a purebred anything.
It's silver. The breeder will have papers to support that the dog is AKC registered but the truth is that many generations ago someone messed up a breeding and forged the AKC papers. I wouldn't support that kind of breeder.
Forget AKC papers. do the parents have all their clearances: hips elbows eyes heart eic and CMN. BOTH parents. to me this is bare minimum regardly of colour
but yeah that's a "silver lab". they just register them as chocolate. AKC doesn't police, it's an honour system unless there is a complaint.
Don't pay because it's pure bred - pay because the puppy was WELL BRED.pure bred means little to nothing. it's a registry. it means NOTHING regarding health, quality or temperament. a lab is not a lab "because it is pure bred" it is a lab because of the work and effort put in by the breeder in making breeding choices. meaning from parents that passed all their clearances, parents of good solid temperament from a good educated ethical breeder that does something with their dogs and is breeding healthy, good temperament dogs.
Make sure there are health clearances but a silver labs is just as much of a labs as any other color.
