Hi! My name is Amber.
I have two lab mixes.
Harper is a lab/springer spaniel mix. she just turned 1 on April 7th!
Boone is 11 weeks and is a lab/german short hair mix.
I joined the forum to ask questions about our dogs food.
We have had Harper on nurtisource since we got her, she has done awesome on it. super healthy and gorgeous shiny coat.
When we got Boone our vet said nutrisource wasn't giving him what he needed. She suggested putting him on Science diet.
Like a dummy I blinded followed her instructions and hes been on the food for a week, Ive noticed he has black tar poops.
Upon reading the reviews and personal comments I'm shocked about how awful the food is!
I'm shocked that our vet even suggested this food.
She said his legs were getting"knobby" so he needed to eat the science diet for calcium!
my husband and I are trying to decide if we want to keep the dogs on nurtisource or switch them to taste of the wild...
Does anyone have any information on these foods, ive read a few conflicting posts saying taste of the wild isn't good for puppies?
Were just so mixed up haha we want to give them the very best food we can!!
thanks so much!!!
there is so much written on foods; my vet told me a puppy should be on puppy food, and after looking into it, I agree.
here's some reading: Best Dog Foods | Dog Food Advisor
please keep in mind it's just one persons opinion.
did you do a search on this forum?
I searched for science diet on here and didn't see anything about issues with the food, but I could have missed something.
we have them on the puppy food doing 50/50 of science diet and nurtisource.
but we want to cut science diet out completely. also suggestion about the taste of the wild being high enough in calcium for puppies.
It's been too long since I poured thru all this with dog foods, but the % of this and that will be on the bag or website, if you have a question pertaining to how much (calcium?) your pup needs, I would ask my vet, that's why they make the big bucks.
