Hello everyone. I am currently working with a 7 month old choc. Lab that comes from a pointing line. He has great drive. He is doing some that i have never seend before. When i throw the bumper sometimes insted of stopping he does a flip and rolls to stop. I am afrain he is going to hurt himself. Is this normal?
Hard to say. Pointing lines in labs, while people are breeding them, isn't normal in the breed. So who knows. Are you sure he's not just slipping?
A lab should not come from pointing lines.
Sounds to me like the dog just has a ton of desire and drive. Sometimes it's a game to them to do the tuck and roll. I have one like that and yes, I winced every time she did it but thankfully she's not hurt herself yet and has good hips, normal elbows. Some of her offspring do the same. You will just need to be careful w/ him until the growth plates close.
Maybe instead of retrieving on land, you can take him to water??? Anne
