    DefaultNew Lab parent

Hi everyone -- I am the mom to a 10 week old chocolate Lab named Keona. She has been an incredible puppy so far, with only the usual puppy issues. I am looking forward to learning from everyone in these forums!

Lol! Yes, the agony! I'm so anxious and excited. But also scared at the same time! So many stories of ripped up couches and destruction.
Trying to educate myself as much as possible.

I wouldn't worry, just love puppy and enjoy the ride, like kids they grow so fast.
ripped up furniture? doubt it. tons of energy, yep.
here's a book I came across before Rocky came home: "Good owners, Great dogs" by Brian Kilcommons, I liked it and am sure there's many others out there.
    stay it touch.

ItsTangy, how exciting for you! I was fortunate enough to be able to visit my little girl from the time she was a week old, and that was a very long 7 weeks while I waited for her to come home! I spent the time before she came home reading anything I possibly could about Labs in order to try and avoid some of the "destructive" behaviors you hear people talk about. So far, she hasn't destroyed any furniture or flooring or anything else. I think the key is just a lot of attention, a LOT of different toys, and training right from the start. I notice that whenever she's really acting up, biting the other dogs and such, it's because she's been playing for a while and she's tired. A time out in her crate, sometimes with a special chew toy, usually calms her down and re-directs the behavior pretty easily.

Can't wait to see your new family member!
