Hello everyone. My 11 year old Lab has been diagnosed with laryngeal paralysis. Other than surgery, does anyone know of alternative treatments? Any info or insight you could provide would be very much appreciated. We are located out here in Contra Costa County, CA
Cholodin will help slow the nerve degradation down but nothing fixes it. You'll have to modify her lifestyle in the heat. I had one years ago w/ it and finally had to put her down at 13.5 but her's started to be noticable at 11 also. Actually in retrospect, she had a higher pitch bark by 10-- one of the first signs.
There are a couple Yahoo sites for LP if you google. One is more holistic, the other will press you to do the surgery (or at least they used to). Good luck. It's no fun. Anymore, I start my seniors on the Cholodin supp at ~age 9 and so far, so good. Anne

Our old male had LP. We just tried to modify his behavior but there really wasn't much to do. He wasn't super active in his older years. Be aware that LP can lead to rear end nerve degeneration, so you'll find his back legs will go.
Appreciate ALL of the information I am getting from this site
BTW I love your picture of your Girls
