Hi, my two year old has just started doing this.
Has anyone heard of it any information would be great.
We will take her to the vet and she seems to be doing this after eating and progessively doing for longer and more frequently. She is not stressed and seems her usual self.
Hopefully someone has heard of this and can offer some advise
I have seen this once with one of my dogs. She had something caught in her teeth and she was licking the air like this. I actually thought she was choking so I was ready to stick my fingers down her throat and noticed she was using her tongue to try and get the stick out of her teeth. She was licking the air over and over as you describe. Maybe she is getting something caught in her teeth or she's having a hard time swallowing? At least next time you feed her check her mouth when she's done (if you haven't yet) and make sure it looks normal.
I second some kibble caught in her teeth. If you can't find anything schedule a vet visit. I'd have them look at her gums and teeth for a abscess or a crack tooth possibly an x-ray of her throat to check for anything stuck.

Thank you for your replies, nothing that we can see stuck in her mouth. However she does appear to have a lump on the inside of her cheek. Will get it looked at and fingers crossed its just an ulcer. She chews nyla bones alot so we are taking them away from today. See if that also helps :-)
Maybe just bit the inside of her mouth? Fingers crossed.
One of my dogs does this as well. She doesn't seem bothered by it so I didn't really see the need to go to a vet. You're probably right, hauts. Something might have been caught in the teeth because she does it a few minutes after eating.
Does yours do it every night?
