    DefaultHello from Michigan

I/we just joined. I say we because I would include my wife and two Labs in on the conversation. I searched for and found this forum because we are currently experiencing some health issues with our two Male Labs. One 6 and the other 4 years are both suffering from diarrhea and vomiting.

We have narrowed it down (we hope) to the food that they have been eating for more than a year now. Currently being treated with Metronidazole and bland diet and will be moving to another label grain free dog food in a few days. I won't go into what brand we came from or what brands we are looking at because after reading the forum, it seems that there is no one "best" dry kibble out there. Our former brand may have had a single bad batch of food in our opinion as the dogs are fine on a bland diet. Once we transitioned back to that same bag, things went downhill all over again.

We will just have to find what works for us.

I'd take them to a vet. Dogs dehydrate quite quickly. Don't take chances while you figure out the food issue. Just a thought.

They have been to the vet, twice. In my first post above I mentioned that they are currently being treated with Metronidazole and bland diet. We're not taking chances, we're following the vet's protocol. And the last step of the vet's directions were to change the food.

and have a blood test, as if it was toxic food , damage could be done to the liver.(which can and will repair)
i dont mean to scare you, but i'd check just to be sure. then let the dog kibble company know.

    and hello, and welcome.

    Waving hello from Michigan!

Where are you specifically? There are several Michiganders here on the forum.

This time of year and weather can lead to the liquid expression from all body openings. How much access do your dogs have to "stuff"? Flagyl (the Metro...med) works well for me, but others in Michigan find a regimen of Panacur works best.

Sorry....my mistake. Miss read parts. Thought you were self-treating. But the important thing is...are they getting better yet?

Thank you to all who have responded. We have transitioned from bland diet to the new kibble over the last week and we are showing very good progress with the dog's "movements". We have another six days on the medication and so far the dogs are doing very well.
