Our family has decided to get a lab puppy, however we don't really know where to start. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you all so much,
What are you looking for?? A field bred or a show bred lab? When you start searching for a breeder make sure they do ALL health testing. here is a list of breeders in Illinois. Winnebago Labrador Retriever Club Breeders Directory

We are looking for mostly a pet. But, possibly one who will be tracking/duck hunting. Thank you for the info.
whatever breeder you pick, do ensure (ask for proof) that they do ALL clearances. Labs are unfortunately plagued with many health issues. the best way to put the odds on your side for a healthy puppy is to ensure BOTH parents have had all their clearances prior to breeding. That is hips, elbows, eyes, heart, eic, cmn.
Also make sure the breeder DOES something with their dogs (all breeding dogs). conformation, hunt, field. Something to show the dogs have good temperment, physical attributes, etc. Even if all you want is a pet this is very important.
good luck. you may want to post in the lab talk section with this question as you will get more answers.

Good luck making your choice. I guess that I was just lucky. I know now though, ... if I get another puppy I will be going back to Jack's family to choose one. That however is definitely out of your range. Welcome to the forum. We look forward to welcoming your new pup.
