My husband and I have two yellow labs, aged 5 and 12. The elder dog was diagnosed with bone cancer last week. Right now all we are doing is keeping the elder dog (Babe)comfortable with medication and lots of attention. I think the younger dog (Cooper) knew something was wrong with Babe even before we did. Cooper was successfully housebroken but for the past several months has been having "accidents" in the house while we are out. We broke out the crate again because we didn't know what else to do. We have slowly tried to get Cooper re-used to the crate, but she's had the run of the house for a few years now.
Hello, I'm so sorry. I think you're right, she's probably acting that way due to stress she feels due to Babe. Are you giving her plenty of attention too? I remember reading somewhere that some dogs can sense when someone has cancer. Maybe this is her way of dealing with it? I wish I could help you with advice, but I'm sure there's plenty of members here who can. I feel so bad for you, I know hard it is for you when a pup you love so much get's diagnosed with cancer. It's heartbreaking . Just give them both plenty of love and attention and enjoy everyday you have with them.
