I've been lurking here for some time, soaking up info on Labs while we've been waiting for the right time to get a puppy. The time is finally here (well, sometime in the next 12 months or so). We're looking for a puppy with potential as a therapy dog and rally competitions, so temperament as well as health is important. I've been talking with several breeders in the VA/MD area and have narrowed down to 2. I'm quite nervous about picking a breeder as the only other time I've gone the purebred route, I picked horribly and it ended badly.
Both of these breeders seem to have lovely dogs and are active in conformation and other activities. I'd love some feedback on the specific breeders, but is it wise/acceptable to post the names?
If anyone would like to give me some names of breeders in our area that might fit what we're looking for, I'd appreciate it!
Thanks for any advice!
How does your pick fare against this check list??
And at the bottom is a link to litter listings...
I usually boil it down to 1) does the breeder do ALL CLEARANCES and 2) does the breeder PROVE their stock through dog shows, obedience, hunting, agility, etc. events?
Post in lab chat and you will get more responses.
Sharon, Blaise and Diesel.
welcome and congrats
do ensure they do ALL the health clearances and ask if any of their puppies hvae done well as therapy dogs and such.
What you can do is post in the lab chat section the name of the breeders and ask for people who know of them or have experience can send you a private message with the info.

Welcome to the forum. I hope that your luck is better with the new pup you choose. I am so happy to have Jack. He is a wonderful companion. I went on blind luck when I chose Jack and it worked out. Now that I know there is so much to it I may not do as well next time. lol I just hope that Jack has a long happy and healthy life. Good luck with your choice.

"Jack catching a few rays."
Thanks for the suggestions! I'll do a follow up post in lab chat for more details on the breeders.
