    DefaultHowdy!

Hey everyone! We are the Sparks and recently became the owners of a sweet chocolate lab.
On April 14, 2012, Chevy Belle was born and we got to take her home May 26.
She is a hyper and loving chocolate lab.
She had a rough run this past couple of weeks, due to a UTI, ear infection, and viral infection (not parvo, but another similar strain), all at the same time. Now, she is all better and running around with her two boston terrier friends.
We joined the site in hopes of learning how to make Chevy's life a good one.

**Btw: if anyone is curious, Chevy Belle is named after our favorite classic Chevrolet car: Bel-Air '56

    nice to meet everyone!

Welcome! She is a petite little girl! Cute! Did your vet tell you that often ear infections and such can be allergy related?

    Hey, thanks for the welcomes!
@sophiesmama: no... she didn't. She said it can be from swimming and a lowered immune system. Which, we were really bad at getting her ears soaked when giving her a bath at first. I read to put cotton balls in the ears before bath, and it helped this last time.
Yes, she's really small. The man said she was the runt of the litter, but she seems to be growing normally.

Our Sophie had repeated ear infections. Then she started scratching herself and losing hair. Our vet said that both can be an allergy, particularly to food. We were told to chose a grain free food with a protein she had not had before. We chose a salmon/grain free food. We were told not to feed her anything else for 6 weeks. After 2 weeks her hair was growing back and the scratching was stopping. Since we changed her food at 4 months, she has had ony 1 mild ear infection. She was having them so often the first 4 months of her life. We bought some ear cleaner from the vet and clean her ears after swimming.
