    Defaultbleeding from a lab

My wife has a yellow lab she 'rescued' from her son when he and his wife divorced.
We have had the dog for about 6 years and estimate that the dog is now anout 12 to 13 years old.
Although not 100% purebred the dog (Daisy) has all the charateristics of a lab.
Normally the dog appears healthy with the exception of being overweight, which I understand is a problem with this breed.
The last few days she has had a bloody discharge from her rear.
At first my wife thought it was poop from an upset stomach, maybe something she ate since we do feed the dog 'leftovers' from the table and will bring 'treats' when we go out to eat.
However, after closer examination it is blood.
My wife called the vet but they could offer no explanation other than bring her in for an examination which would be approximately $45.
Research shows the dog may be going through menopause ?? This discharge should last 3 to 5 days. ??
Has anyone here had a similar experience with their dog ?
My wife is very concerned about Daisy.
Any reply and or advice from the forum would be welcomed.
    Thanks in advance,
    duffer

She needs to see a vet...you said rear end...what did you mean? Her rectum or vulva? Either way, a vet visit is needed.

See a vet. I bet if you had blood coming out of your nether parts you'd RUN to the Doctors. She needs professional care.

    Defaultbleeding

The bleeding seems to come from her vulva.
She doesn't appear to be sick and eats normally.
Unfortunately we are on a fixed income and vet bills are not part of our normal budget. However, if she doesn't improve in a day or so we will have to make arrangements somehow to take her to a vet.
    Thanks for everyone that replied

Have you checked to see if where you live has low cost vet services? We have a center here that is funded by the county and donations. If you are on social security, or state assistance or low income, you can go to them. Vet office calls ar $20. Check your yellow pages, or check with the SPCA and ask them.

I am sorry that your dog is not well and vet care is not in your budget. I hope that things turn out well for you.
