    DefaultHello from Scotland!

    Hi there,
Here with Mac (short for Macaroon) who is nearly four, a lovely, friendly black lab. We're in Scotland. Mac is a "shop" dog, ie we live above our shop and Mac comes and goes as he pleases. He's a firm favourite with the shop regulars and there are a lot of people here who come in just to see him rather than buy things . He has a few behavioural issues I don't understand, so I've joined the forum to try to find out a little bit more about them (I'll post in the appropriate forum)

Thank you for letting me know! I'm such a newbie to all of this I'll post up pics of Mac shortly. I'm terribly rude, I forgot to say, I'm Catriona, from the East coast of Scotland. Thankyou for the lovely welcome.

Thank you Dek! I've joined because I don't think we're doing our best by Mac. He's not well socialised around other dogs (although when it comes to humans, he's superb) I'll let you know a little bit more about our situation:
Mac is nearly 4. I work from home, my husband works in our shop which is beneath our apartment in a small town in Scotland. We have four children. E. our eldest daughter, who is 23 years old and vanishes off to another city for University- Mac sulks when she gets back but gradually forgives her, J. our eldest son, who, at 18 seems to be Mac's intellectual equal (in a good way.... ie they both love goofing off) K. our youngest daughter who is 13 and desperate to "do it properly" as far as Mac is concerned and S. our youngest son, who is clearly at the bottom of the pile and to whom Mac doesn't listen to at all.... he can't even take him for a walk.
Mac pulls at lead a lot, and, in the shop, has some socialisation issues with other dogs. I've posted on the behavioural/training board about it. But..... goodness me, he's a sweetie. He's one of those Labs that is really driven by scent. He'll spend an hour at an open window just sniffing the air to see what's going on. Any time any one of us is ill, he seems to know it the day before and that person gets preferential pup time! He picks up on things quickly too. The bits and pieces of training I've done with him, he remembers very very well.

Harveysmum, I stayed in Bournemouth (ok not quite South East, but one of the best summer weather places I've ever been) in 1987 very shortly before the huge storm. (we stayed in Boscombe in Bournemouth and Christchurch a wee bit along from there) It is lovely here. I'm in Perthshire, but I was brought up by the coast, and do miss the sea! (and Mac loves it when we drive to Broughty Ferry!)
