    Defaultbrand new to labs!

    Hello everyone!

My name is Laura, and I'm about the enter the wonderful world of Lab ownership! My husband and I are adopting a 5 year old chocolate boy named Maddox. Hubby and I aren't all that interested in pure bred status (we had planned to adopt the first cutie that caught our eyes at the pound), but Maddox is apparently AKC certified and coming with all sorts of paperwork. *shrug* I've always loved labs, so this is a bonus! Maddox needs to be rehomed due to bad allergies in the home, which is very sad for his family but good news for ours! We've met him on our turf, and he gave the definite seal of approval to our yard...he's moving from a smallish yard in a city atmosphere to our large, wooded, semi-rural neighborhood. He demonstrated pretty good manners, and apparently was incredibly well trained at one point, but with the addition of their children and busy lives, the training has gone a little lax. I'm thinking of enrolling in an obedience class as a refresher and to establish a good bond with him.

We won't be taking him home for another couple of weeks, so my anticipation and anxiety are growing! I'm not new to dog ownership (I had a lovely pitbull girl) but it's been years. I'm reading as much as I can to refresh my memory. I'm glad to have found this forum, it's a wealth of information!

I can't wait to TAKE pictures of Maddox! The wait for adoption is killing me, but it's for the best. We're taking a short vacation at the beginning of July, and Maddox would not be able to come. We didn't want to traumatize him by bringing him to a new home and then disappearing for 5 days and leaving him with a house sitter.

That was probably a very smart decision and the best thing for Maddox.
Take LOTS of pictures...I LOVE the chocolates (and I'm dying for a chocolate boy for myself)!!!
