Hi guys I just wanted to join up on here so I can get some training tips and help when needed. I found the site while googling lab/terrier mixes. Right now I don't have a lab, but I did find one at the local animal shelter that I love! I submitted my application for her, her name is Mona and she is a Lab/terrier mix. She is just over a year old. She will be my first actual puppy. All my life I have lived with dogs of different breeds but she will be the first I own. Basically it's just a waiting game to see if I get approved, I hope I do!
I also have a cat that I got from the same animal shelter and she is all up to date on her shots and vaccinations. Her name is wiggles, then I also have Zeus my albino guinea pig.
Once I find out if I get approved (I really hope I do!) I can get some pictures up.
I know joining up before I even have a doggie is weird but I'm just excited!!
Welcome hope it all works out for you.
buy a crate and train.
Welcome to the forum How old is the dog? I have had terriers and labs and man those to put together you better be really active and have a good throwing arm I would make sure you have a crate, dog bones, long leash ( for hikes, and training ect.), lots of treats, maybe toys and a kong so when he is in his crate he has soemthing to do.
~It doesn't matter how smart the dog is,it matters how smart the owner is.
Welcome. It isn't weird coming here before you get her. Good idea and a few do. Good luck and hope you get her.
Thanks for the welcome guys!
I'm not exactly sure on her age as she is a transfer from another shelter, they have her listed as 1 year old. It looks like she still has her baby teeth though...how long do labs/terriers keep them for? I went and visited her today she did a lot of chewing on my hands and my shoes.
I'll be getting a crate from my mom in the next few days and I went out today and bought some stuff for her, got two pet beds, food and water bowls, some treats and two Kong chewies. I got a leash too, a 6 foot nylon one and I have a retractable 16 foot one as well.
One thing I still need to get is a collar, idk if the shelter will give one with her or not and I didn't want to get the wrong size.
Here are two pics of her that I got from the Humane Society's website.
Welcome, she is a cutie pie...hope it all works out and we hear from you again
She is a cutie! I heard back from the shelter tonight and I have to bring my moms dogs in on Thursday to meet her just to make sure they can get along together since she will be visiting quite often.
I also went to Petco today and bought some more animal supplies. For the doggie I got a collar, a plush toy and also tug-o-war rope. Was looking at the chuck its they had but they only had the small ones. Then for my guinea I got him some bedding since they had it on sale.
Once Thursday comes I'll let you guys know if I get her, I can't wait!!!
She looks like she is a Lab/Pitbull Terrier mix. I own a pit bull and they are awesome dogs, but they do chew a lot so you will have to have a lot of toys she CAN chew on and teach her what she CAN'T chew on. Labs and Pits both LOVE cuddling so you'll have a good snuggle buddy. She's adorable and good luck with her! You're going to have loads of fun.
