Hi my name is Ester and my husband and I have a 1 yr 6 mos yellow lab (with yellow eyes). I am wondering if there is anything known as stress shedding. I have read that labs have a blow once in the the spring and once in the fall but I noticed that Maggie had a major shed when we picked her up from our friend who was watching her while we were away for a few days. The car was covered with dog hair by the time we got home. Any thoughts anyone?
A lot of dogs shed when they're stressed. You should have seen the amount of hair our old guy, Mick, left on the floor when we started training classes (he was very insecure), and at the vet's. Labs (and other breeds) also shed their top coat all year. What they lose in the spring and fall is the soft undercoat.

Stress shedding IS possible.
But...labs shed year round, alot. THEN on top of that they blow their coat twice a year!
Welcome to the board!

Labs shed all year. Yes they can when in an uncomftorable situation. Like if you leave them at a kennel for the first time they will get stressed because it is a new place and it is scary. Oh welcome and can you post pics of this handsome guy?
~It doesn't matter how smart the dog is,it matters how smart the owner is.
I had dogs that would stress shed when they had to go to the vets - so yes, I believe this is a possibility.
