    DefaultStarted pointing and flushing

I took Tracker my 5 month old english setter to the feild today. Well I saw him crouch, point then flush some birds. He also did it on the leash. How do i teach him that it is ok to do it off leash but not on leash? I want him to do what the setter breed was bred to do but I do not know if his knew owner is going to want him to :/. Those that hunt with your dogs how did you train them?

You are not keeping him? He's very pretty.

First off, unless you already know who is new owner will be, why don't you try to find him a home with someone who hunts? If they want him for hunting they probably aren't going to worry too much about it.

I think the birds are like any big distraction, you just need to train him to keep his attention on you and follow commands. Have you read about attention training? Competitive obedience people spend a lot of time on it. If I were you I would find a book that uses positive reinforcement obedience training. Once his obedience is solid you should be able to get his attention on you and put him to work before he gets glued to the birds.

Thanks, when we meet this person who wants him we wil see what they want. If we can not find the perfect family for him we will keep him. We are just in finacial troubles like others so we want him to go to a better home. I will try to find some good books on it because a certain yellow boy is starting to follow his little friend :/
