    Defaulthelp with getting started

I'm in Ca. (SF bay area) and have a 7 month old Choc. male. I want some info on getting him looked at by the right person to have his look assessed for the ring. Does anyone have some advice to steer me in the right direction?

Why don't you start with his breeder?

I agree- where/who is his breeder, and how far away is s/he? Do they show, and would they be able to tell you whether or not your boy is show-quality? Was he sold to you as a show prospect? California is a very competitive place, but there are some fantastic breeders up near you.

yeah, i thought of getting together with the breeder, but wanted to try to figure things out before talking to her. I heard that you can sometimes take a dog to a local dog show and get him looked at for this reason, but I need to look further into that possibility. I'll probably call the breeder soon to ask for her advice as well.

If they didn't sell you this dog as a show prospect, chances are that, while a nice pet dog, has a few faults that would not show well in the ring...but I'd say that you really need to talk to your breeder.
