Get caught up in doing OB with your "other" dogs that you ignore the fact that a chocolate judge will be at your speciality and you don't enter your chocolate bitch. I am kicking myself. A well know chocolate breeder will be at our specialty, her name didn't even click in my brain, and I didn't enter Grace. What the heck was I thinking????

Don't beat yourself up. Often those "one particular color" judges will surprise you and put up a color they don't themselves own. I told a friend who was preparing for her first judging assignment that when she got out in the ring she won't even see the color....and she didn't. I know I look at the dog and not the coat color when judging.

I agree with Peggy. All breeder/judges I know that breed mostly chocolates reward other attributes more consistently than just color. In fact they can be tougher on the chocolates because it's their preference.

What's a chocolate judge? Someone who likes Hershey Bars?

LOL...a breeder judge who specializes in chocolate labs.

I know that they are supposed to be unbiased, I still would have liked to show her to a judge that actually prefers chocolates, to see how she ranked if only in her class of Open Chocs.

Don't worry. You enter under the right judge sometimes and the wrong ones others. It's all part of the game. Have fun like I am having.

We didn't do well in our real classes in OB, but Maddy got a 1st in Grad Novice (a non-regular class). Hudler was in a tizzy the whole time, I think someone had either let their bitch in season pee near the ring or was set up in the grass the day before where the ring was. It was NOT a pretty sight. His whining was HORRIBLE.

Congrats on Maddy's 1st- yay! Sorry to hear about Hudler...boys are a trip, aren't they? I had to literally hold Monty's face off of the ground yesterday getting ready to go in the ring at a local show (Burbank KC). There was something that smelled great down there, it seems.
