First of all, I'm very excited that my puppy fever that I've had intermittently since Boudreaux was born 3 years ago is about to be cured......in a BIG way. I leased a b1tch to breed to Charlie. She ovulated on Christmas eve or Christmas day. At 4 weeks I ultrasounded. Just a quick look revealed AT LEAST 9 pups....didn't search extensively, just enough to know that we had pups. When she came here, she weighed 62 lbs. Last Friday she weighed 67 lbs. On Monday, she weighed 71 lbs. Today she weighed 76.5 lbs. She should have another 16 days to go, and she is NOT fat just very full belly. How concerned would you be?
I wouldn't be too concerned. When Sass had her litter of 12 she put on about 26 lbs...ALL PUPPY. She couldn't even SIT at the end. Make sure you give her small meals over the course of the entire day rather than 2 or even 3.
Thanks. That makes me feel a little better. I just couldn't believe 10 lbs gained in 1 week. I'll be on pins and needles until she delivers.
I wouldn't worry my Maddie was stretched so tight when she had her 10 pups. You gotta remember the pups will be around a pound each, some more some less, Then add amniotic fluid and placenta's. That is a lot of weight.
I can't wait for you to post pictures of your babies.
Well. We're watching closely now. She's due in the next few days and has gained 23 lbs. This is one miserable girl. I'll keep you all posted when I have time. :P
