    Defaultpuppy with white on chest

I'm just looking for opinions on puppies with white on their chest. If you had a puppy with great conformation and temperament, but had a very small amount of white on its chest (say nickel size), would you pick this puppy to show over others in the litter that didn't have white? I don't show or breed, I was just curious.

Yep. Wouldn't bother me at all.

Other aspects of the dog are more important than the white.

Agree with Nicole and yellowbelly, nothing to be too concerned about. I'd be more concerned with health checks (hips, elbow, eye, heart) than a nickel size white mark. My pup has three strands of white hair on his chest. Really cute.

Yes, my Tango was the only pup in the litter w/ a very thin white blaze (have to actually rub her to see it now) and I still kept her. She was the best pup all around.

If you are not going to show the pup, no problem.

Not a problem if you're going to show the dog either.

Thanks for the replies. I've noticed over the last few years as I've looked at breeders websites a lot more litter pages with puppies with white on their chests. They seem to be quality dogs (champion parents, all clearances etc..) from reputable breeders. Are they just becoming more common or are breeders just more accepting of the white patches these days? I personally don't have an objection to the white. I don't show and all of my past labs have been family pets. Just an observation.

I noticed too, with the popularity of certain studs, that the amount of white marking has increased. I've only had a handful here over the years. Doesn't really bother me to have the small stripe (all of mine have been little strips) but where we start doubling up on producers of that, I've had friends run into issues w/ mismarks (large white patches, white toes, etc). It is something for breeders to keep in mind, but in the big scheme of things, it can be managed w/ common sense. I believe the FCI standard calls white acceptable, but undesirable, so I wonder if the breeders over the pond tolerate it less than we do.

That depends on the judge. Standard says (quote) "A small white spot on the chest is permissible, but not desirable."You pays your money and take your chances"..
