It's a bird! It's a plane! It's a Lab?? Maybe you've seen the leaping Labs of ESPN's Great Outdoor Games "Big Air" competition. Big Air is the name for a competition that has its roots in traditional waterfowling. Instead of retrieving a dead goose or duck shot by a hunter, however, these retrievers run down a 30-yard long suspended dock, then jump, usually after a decoy thrown by their owner or trainer. The dog must then swim to shore with the decoy. The winner is the dog with the longest jump.
Do you have a Lab that loves to jump and swim? Here is a web site that provides information for Lab owners wanting to find out more about this increasingly popular sport. Dockdogs is also the sanctioning body for Big Air Dogs performance sports. Dockdogs.com
