Labrador FriendsLabrador Friends of the South ( LFS ) is an incorporated, non-profit organization dedicated to the rescue and adoption of homeless Labrador Retrievers in the Southeast region. We have our shelter license and are currently applying for 501 (c)(3) status. We started our group in January 2006 and have found forever homes for over 28 labs and currently have 22 in our program now.

LFS relies solely on donations, fundraising events and adoption fees to function and continue saving and placing homeless Labradors. We do not receive any state or federal funding. LFS is an all volunteer organization of people who give their time, effort, and love to protect the breed from the perils of pet over-population and irresponsible pet ownership. Our ultimate goal is to help these dogs find new, loving, forever homes. Most of our Labradors come from shelters in Georgia and the surrounding states. We do take in some owner surrenders. The Labradors in our program receive veterinary care and temperament testing before being eligible for adoption. Since our goal is to place our Labradors in forever homes, we consider each Labrador's history (if any), temperament, training and other skills, and energy level. We then assess each adopting family's preferences, home environment, lifestyle, and personality in order to make the best possible match for a successful adoption.

We do not have a dedicated kennel or other facility for our dogs. We are an all volunteer organization, and there is no staff or any one person employed to work for Labrador Friends of the South on a full or part time basis. We rely on volunteers and foster homes to rescue, house, and help the labs in our program in their spare time. In urgent need cases, where no foster homes are available, we will board the dogs to save them, but with boarding costs and other expenses, we can only save as many as we have foster homes available.

We do hold regular adoption day events, where people are welcome to visit with us and interact with the labs. Please check out our News and Events section. We can also schedule individual appointments as needed. So, please visit our website, www.labradorfriends.com . Then VOLUNTEER, FOSTER, ADOPT!
