What is Love of Labs, IN?

We are a group of dedicated Labrador Retriever lovers in IN, IL, OH & MI. We have united to help the stray, the unwanted, and the unloved Labradors that are dumped in animal shelters throughout the Midwest. We donate our time, gas, vehicles and all the love we have, to help save these poor dogs by bringing them into our homes and introducing them as part of our families.

Why are Labs in these Shelters?

Since the Labrador Retriever is the #1 dog in the US according to the AKC, Labs & Lab mixes are also the #1 dog in these animal shelters &/or humane societies. These shelters are full of dogs and must empty daily in order to take in more unwanted, unloved Labs & mixes from their irresponsible owners and off the streets. Most of these shelters kill their dogs for space, NOT because of disease, illness or aggression as one might think.

Many owners do not realize that their Labs do not fully mature until approximately 2-3 years of age. They also do not seem to realize that these dogs need direction & training to compensate for their high energy level. The #1 reason that Labs are in shelters is LACK OF OWNER COMMITTMENT. Some people find it easier to dispose of their pets than to take the time to train and exercise them.

Exactly what does LOLIN, INC do to help these dogs?

We are one of the only Labrador Retriever rescues in the Midwest that brings Labrador mixes into our program; most rescues only want purebreds (as they get adopted quicker & more easily). However, if there weren't so many purebred Labs, there would not be as many Lab mixes in these shelters either.

Love of Labs finds foster homes for these unwanted Labs and Lab mixes. While we evaluate these dogs, we also evaluate their medical needs by taking them to the Vet. We have the Vets do fecal exams, blood tests including testing for heartworms. Then LOLIN brings the Labs up-to-date on their vaccines, and administers any other medication they may need, including heartworm preventatives. Furthermore, we spay/neuter the dogs, while finding forever homes for them so they will never be subjected to living in animal shelters again! (In our adoption contract, all adoptive guardians must sign that if they are unable to keep the dog for ANY reason at any time, the dog must be returned to us.)
