    Default Humping!

So I was just doing my morning routine and checking my email, etc. I looked up and Ivy was humping Maggie!!! I scolded her which startled her and made her stop, but I'm at a loss, because I didn't think females did this?! I guess I've never seen either one of my girls exhibit this behavior, so I wasn't sure exactly how to handle it...

Sorry I can't offer any help, but I can empathize. Gracie started humping her toys a couple of months ago and now has graduated to humping her dog bed. No people or other dogs yet. But it is :surprise: an icky habit for a little girl.

Although not as common as males, females do hump (not only other females but also other males).

I´m not sure but I think it is dominant related. My old Brownie used to hump once in a while her sister and my friend´s yellow lab (a very dominant girl by the way) humps a lot all other dogs she meets.

It is not as frequent as in males though

It is a dominance thing. Just teach her "Leave it" and correct her every time you see her doing it. She probably won't ever stop doing it, but you can control her actions when you see her doing it.

could be dominance, but I know of a number of dogs that will hump in an attempt to get a play session started. I don't interfere unless it becomes obsessive or if its obvious that the humpee has had enough, or if my human houseguests are embarassed.

My female does it to her dog bed but I don't think it is dominance related. She only does it in the evening, when she wants attention or wants to play. She only humps her dog bed and only when we are in the room watching her.

I think Kaytris is right about starting play sessions for some dogs. This is the case with Ellie.

Hunter humps his dog bed ALL the time, but he is a boy...it was expected...but I didn't think it would start at 8 wks old! That is insane! :surprise:

A that age, it has little to nothing to do with him being a boy, they're "playing" dominant.

It's common for females. I had 2 black Pugs - Mother & daughter. They were both spayed but daughter was always humping her Mum. I just put it down to her being a lesbian. I also had a King Charles spaniel who I adopted & she did it to the other dogs. She was also spayed. :suspious:

Maybe we should be making doggy porno movies.
