Training classes!! I never thought of that!!Originally Posted by Trickster
It's bad because I'm not very good with kids (I haven't been properly socialized! ;D LOL) So I find myself at a loss in terms of how to talk to them, what to do if they don't listen to me, and then I get nervous... no wonder Peanut's afraid of them, she gets it from ME! :-[
And I will totally take him everywhere possible with me!! I can't WAIT for that part!!!

I used my neighbours' kids!!
Parks is a great idea too! For Henry's puppy kindergarten classes, owners who also had young children were encouraged to bring their kids along! It worked great!!

Close to school at pick up time. There is a Jewish school next to my building, I walked by today at 3.30pm, and there is ton of kids. Everyone, wanted to pet Chocolata.

If you are going to bring your dog to a school I would call and ask first. Our school does not allow dogs around the school during drop off/pick up times.
I meant outside on the sidewalk.Originally Posted by CindersMyGirl

For which one? I can put my kids on the sidewalk.Originally Posted by CHOCOLATA
That's where I meant too. The principal asks people not to walk their dogs on the sidewalks that border the school when the kids are out. Somebody kept walking an aggressive dog on the public sidewalk during times when kids were around so they made the rule. Don't know if it's legal, but my kids were bummed because if Cinder walked with to pick them up we had to wait down the street and then all of their friends didn't get to see her.
ALWAYS make sure the parents know you are tying to socialize your dog...they may not want their child near a dog that is afraid or leery of children (small or large), especially in big, noisy, fast moving groups like at a school. i have been taking Angus to school to drop off & pick up my eldest daughter since we got him at 9 weeks old. He's mobbed daily, and loves the attention, however, he is still an 8 month old puppy, and he could knock a child down or inadvertently scratch or nip in "play"...I am hyper aware when we are around any children, kids are very unpredictable, even my own two.![]()
