    Default weight Chart?

We are new Lab owners! We brought Duke home when he was 7 weeks, he is now a little over 4 months. He is a BIG boy! Right now he is 52 lbs and we are wondering if this is average for his age. Has anyone come across a chart that gives the average weight during the first year? He eats 1 cup of dry food 3 times a day, gets his little training snacks, plenty of exercise and is not overweight.
BTW- he is such a delight. Everytime you look into those eyes you just fall in love. He is however, a determinded guy, and it's always a battle when he doesn't get his own way.

This is a VERY common, often repeated question.

One would ordinarily think that a particular breed would have a typical rate of growth and development.

BUT, since the Lab is the MOST popular breed of dog (4X the next most popular, I think), and maybe 10X the total of the next 4 breeds, we have a HUGE amount of variation.

We have AKC bench/show/"English" line Labs from responsible breeders competing in show and bench competitions.

(See <http://www.thelabradorclub.com/standard/ officialstandard.html> for the standards for the bench/show/"English" Labrador.)

We also have "field line" (field/"American") in the USA which tend to be leggier, leaner and lankier, heavier than the bench line Lab; they have no standards for body conformity, weight, or size.

In addition, beyond the standards of the bench line Labs and whatever the average dimensions of competing field line Labs, probably MOST Labs in the USA come from Puppy Mills (PMs) or Back Yard Breeders (BYBs).

These do not breed to produce a dog that can compete in a bench/show event or field/hunt event, but just to produce puppies that can be called Labs.

For that reason, Labs can reach a usual adult weight of between 45 lbs and 130+ lbs.

My Puff [YF, AKC field line (competitive breeder), 65 lbs., DOB: 8-'01] had a development which was much like the silhouette of the NE quadrant of a football (when the noses are pointing E-W).

    Her weight gain was

    Days Age____Weight (lbs)

    _80___________10

    115___________20

    125___________25

    155___________33

Other Labs will have a much different rate of growth.

You will probably have one big lab - about 100.

Here is a chart and it seems pretty accurate to me. Within 7 lbs and they even account for it in the graphic,

The chart is for dogs, not just for goldendoodles.

They all grow at different rates ... AND if you want the best indication of how big your lab will get, just look at his parents.

For reference, Sami (girl) weighed 35 lbs. at 4 months, 48 lbs. at 5 months, and is now 55 lbs. at 18 months (and no that's not a typo)! Like I said above, just look at the parents. Sami is identical in size to her mother.

IF he follows my Puff's rate of development -- BUT even AKC Labs have many different rates --
he'll weigh 83.106 lbs. at age 18 months.
